What Causes Pain In The Calf?

I recently broke my foot and got a plaster cast. When I lay down for a whole everything feels okay but when I try to stand up and move around my calf starts to hurt pretty badly. Feels like cramping. Any way I can help? Or should I go back to the hospital?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.
Sorry to know about your accident.
It seems that you have got deep vein thrombosis as a result of long immobilization you had because of fracture foot. The pain can also be due to prolonged immobility of your foot in splint.
If I were your treating doctor,I recommend,
-Advice investigation like Doppler scan of legs for blood circulation
-Applying compression bandage on your leg
-Do frequent flexion, extension, rotational movements at ankle joint.Avoid standing for long.
- Cold compression can be applied to aching area.
-Sleep or sit with your leg elevated
-Take calcium supplement.Avoid pain killers like ibuprofen
-Report immediately if you face symptoms like shortness of breath or chest pain.
Hope this information helps
Thanks and regards.
