Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have pain on the inside of my ankle. I don t think its muscle or bone problem. I feel like its something in the vein. I know that sounds crazy. I can t find any info on ankle issues other than fracture or sprains. The normal things you would think of. Any suggestion on where to look? Thank you Julie
There are other causes of pain and it doesn't sound crazy. It depends on when your pain occurs and what makes it worse. Pain on inside of the ankle related to the vein makes me think of varicose veins, which sometimes aren't totally obvious. The usual treatment is compression stockings, which can sometimes help with the pain. You can get these from any pharmacy over the counter. You'll usually notice pain when you're sitting for long periods of time. An ultrasound can help test for this.
Another possibility is arthritis; if you've had any history of injury at the joint, or just normal wear and tear, this usually occurs when you walk or use the affected limb. Ibuprofen and ice can usually help in this case
I'd see your primary care physician and ask him what he thought of either of these causing your symptoms. You can certainly try treating yourself in the meantime and seeing if that helps.
I hope this answers your questions. Please feel free to contact me should you have any further questions.
