What Causes Pain In The Abdomen And Lower Back?

Early period lasting only 3 days, really bad cramps that radiate up to my stomach (usually I ve only ever had slight cramps in my lower back). I ve also just been getting over a bad cold where I have been coughing excessively. Which my roommate now has also.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry for the painful abdomen and lower back you are experiencing.

Monthly bleeding together with bad cold coughing is causing the pain in your abdomen and lower back.

I advise to take OTC pain-killers (like ibuprofen or mephenamic acid).

For the bad cold, should take:
- cold meds you find OTC
- increase fluids intake especially water, juice, tea, soups
- Apply vapour rub on your chest
- aerosol therapy can help
- take anti-histamine like loratadine for the inflammation
- take mucolytic is productive cough (e.g carbocystein)

If this is not improving your symptoms, should consult further with your physician and run further tests like urine analysis, abdominal ultrasound to rule out infection or any other genital problem (ovary cysts).

Wish fast recovery.
