What Causes Pain In Lower Part Of Belly?

Three days ago I started having extreme pain in the lower part of my belly. I have had 2 hospitalizations for diverticulitis. The pains were a few minutes apart and almost took my breath. (I have also had those two times) I rode it out thru the night, expecting to probably go to emergency room or wait for dr. visit the next day. After several hours trying to go to sleep and it being impossible, I sat in a rocking chair and stretched out my torso for a couple of hours. The pains finally stopped, but 3 days later I feel very uncomfortable when I sit down. It feels like everything kind of bunches up inside of me. Could it have been a kink in my colon? I had been doing exercises doing the day by lying on the floor and lifting weights over my head about 50 times, which I have been doing for about a month. I m a female, aged 71 and in pretty good shape. Haven t had a colonoscopy for about 6 years.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
Since you are a known patient of diverticulitis the pain below the umbilical area is obviously due to diverticulitis unless proved otherwise.
This can be confirmed only by the following:
CT scan of the abdomen.
Clinical evaluation by a General Surgeon.
Tests of blood, stool.
This can not be due to kinking of colon as this is not a known cause.
Once diagnosed you will be given a long course of an antibiotic active against colonic infection, metronidazole, probiotics.
If the problem is repeated over time again and again, it may be wise to get operated as advised by your Surgeon.
