Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband is experiencing pain in both legs. It does not seem to be from exercise or an injury. The symptoms started a few days ago. Not even sure what to look up. He has taken Aleve. There are no bumps or bruises and it is not warm to the touch. He is borderline diabetic. His sugars have been a little high recently. Low 300 Just not sure what to be looking for.
Hello. I understand your concern. Pain in both legs associated with diabetes is very common and a lot of patients present with this complain to my clinic.
Here i would like to know if he has pins and needles sensation in the soles of the feet and how well controlled is the diabetes because this will tell me a particular problem associated with diabetes.
First is get vitamin D levels in the blood. Vitamin D deficiency is very common in diabetics especially in those who have long standing poorly controlled diabetes mellitus. If deficiency is identified than vitamin D supplements have to be started according to the level of deficiency . This might be one of the reasons and will result in pain relief in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile a simple pain killer may be taken like acetaminophen (Panadol)
If your husband has pins and needles sensation in the soles of the feet that it could be due to diabetic neuropathy which is a very common result of long standing diabetes . For that certain medication are usually give but for that i suggest you to visit your doctor who will advise you the medication best suited for your husband.
I hope the answer was helpful. Feel free to contact us in writing in case of further queries.
Regards Dr Talal Hussain.
