What Causes Pain In Ears While Swallowing?

I have extreme pain in both ears when I swallow and some sore throat pain as well. I do not have strep throat, and I do not have my tonsils. My ears were checked yesterday and I was told they were unremarkable .. What may be causing this pain, and how do I alleviate it? I can t function with this pain, I can t eat and I m sleeping very poorly at night. I have an occlusal splint (nightguard) made by my dentist for excessive jaw clenching. It broke about 2 weeks ago while I was travelling; my dentist has taken impressions for a new one which will hopefully be here by next Thursday. Could this be causing the pain?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Yes, if sore throat has been ruled out by your physician then Tooth grinding (Bruxism) at night can cause pain in your jaw joints (Temporomandibular joint) which can be reffered to ears. For Bruxism the combination of paracetamol and orphenadrine gives very good results. My advise is tablet-Norgesic (paracetamol+orphenadrine) one tablet PO twice daily.
