What Causes Pain In Chest And Shortness Of Breath?

For the past few weeks, I've had a pain in my chest. It has been localized to a pretty small area (left side, above my breast). I'd compare the pain to that of a bruise. I would only notice it if I breathed deeply. Today, I noticed I've been a little short of breath. I realized I wasn't really able to take deep breaths and I've been feeling a sensation of wanting to yawn a lot too. As for my medical history, I'm a 24 year old female. I am 5'10" and weigh 200 pounds. I smoke and have been at various frequencies for about 7 years now. About a month ago, I noticed I was smoking more than usual and have been trying to cut back. I was up to about a pack every 3 to 4 days. I was wondering if this is serious enough to need to go to the hospital and also what it could be. Thanks.

Hi thanks for contacting HCM...

Noted you are smoking since 7 year and in more frequency...
So yes you have to consult doctor for it....

Smoking can release elastase and it can lead destruction of alveoli called emphysema....
It can also lead to bronchitis like condition.

So for that chest x ray and pulmonary function test done....

Smoking also can lead fibrosing lung disease....

So stop smoking ....
Causative treatment done...

If bronchi constriction then bronchodilator might needed.

Here by x ray and lung scan malignancy also can be ruled out.and subsequent biopsy needed if growth present

Take care....
