What Causes Pain In Abdomen And Back After An Abortion?

I just had an abortion 2 days ago; the day of and the next day I was pretty ok, not too much bleeding or cramps. But today I woke up with sharp shooting pains ranging from across my belly/uterus and back all the way down to my thigh. Should I be concerned? Even just lying here in bed hurts.

Usually, when the abortion is complete, there is lower abdominal pain - colicy type due to the uterine contractions. However, if it is intolerable, you may require anti spsmodic drugs. If this pain is associated with vaginal bleeding, there is a possibility of incomplete abortion. In such case you must immediately consult your ObGyn consultant. Also, you have to find out whether you have developed infection in the genital tract. Usually there is foul smelling discharge with the genital tract infection. However, the tubal infection may not cause vaginal discharge. Raised body temperature also is found in the infection. In such cases Antibiotics are indicated - but only after doctors advice. Such a severe degree of pain you are having calls for your visit to ObGyn doctor.
