What Causes Pain Below Sternum?

Hi, I am a 30 year white old male, slim, 5 11 135lbs. As Long as I can remember I have had a gnawing feeling/pain right below my sternum when I wake up in the morning and right before lunch. If I swallow saliva, I will hear a gurgling like air is being released and the pain immediately goes away and I have instant relief for about 10 mins before it comes back. Eating and drinking also provides relief. I have been to the doctor and explained this. They always tell me they think it is gastritis, and prescibe me 300mg ranitidine for a month. A few days after the prescription runs out the pain is back. Any suggestions as to what could be causing this?

Hello
I had gone through your question diligently and I will try to help you out in best possible way

it can be caused by Acid reflux which can be manged with certain dietary and life style modifications like
Avoid fatty fried spicy and junk food or carbonated drinks
Have lots of fresh fruits and vegetables
You can take curd, cold milk or fruit juices

you can take pantoprazole or rabeprazole with antacids for symptomatic relief.

You should not stay hungry, have something to eat at frequent intervals because hunger increase acid production
Avoid smoking and alcohol
relaxation exercises to allay anxiety and stress.
Don't lie down immediately after earing something

If you can.provide me more details like your age and presence of any other metabolic illness like diabetes or thyroid and liver disease , I will be able to help you better

In my opinion you should consult a gastroenterologist for an endoscopy and X ray chest if need be

Hope this answers your question
Thanks and regards
