What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Muscles And Joints?

My 50 year old sister has been experiencing pain and swelling in her muscles and joints. She has been to the doctor but all blood work has come back normal. She was tested for Lupus and MS, I think. On Friday, she started hurting really badly and was vomiting. She was admitted into the hospital but released the next day. She is back at the ER right now what intense pain and swelling. She has also been dropping things because her wrist/hand is weak. We had a sibling to past a couple of years from ALS that she knew she had only 6 months before diagnosed.
