What Causes Pain And Drainage From The Ear After Inserting Ear Tubes?

My husband had ear tubes inserted Monday. He has since had excessive pain and drainage. Went to urgent care yesterday, told him tube was laying on a bone in his ear. Gave him cipro antibiotic drops and pain medication. Today he continues to have excessive drainage. Any suggestions?

Pediatric Surgeon 's  Response
hello...it seems grommets or ventilation tubes have been inserted. no need to worry. their role is to allow accumulated fluid from the middle ear to drain out..that is why they are kept. try to keep your dry by repeated mopping .don't allow water in your ear while bathing. swimming strictly prohibited. if their is too much pain...start with antibiotics and analgesics. even if does not stop just get checking if fungal infection has not set in your ear. for this you can start with candid ear drops. gud luck.

General Surgeon Dr. T Chandrakant's  Response
Hi.
Inserting the tubes is done to improve the drainage and allow aeration of the Middle ear.
Ideally pain should not be there.
I would advise you to consult your operating surgeon to examine your ears for the pain and adjust the tubes or remove them.
