What Causes Pain And Bleeding After Sex When Mirena Is Fitted?

I have had the mirena for 8 months now and went in 2 months ago because of bleeding for weeks at a time and abdonimal pain, found out that the strings were kinked and they trimmed them and did an ultrasound to make sure everything was in place everything turned out fine and I felt better. Now I am feeling the same pain again and have been bleeding after sex, this is mostly when the pain and bloating returns, after sex.

Hello ma'am and welcome.

A return visit to your doctor will be required and an ultrasound is almost mandatory again. There are two common side effects of inserting the mirena, 1. Pain, and the other 2. Bleeding.

Only pain is an indication for removal of the mirena and not bleeding. So keeping this in mind, if at all your pain continues and/or escalates please consider getting it removed.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
