Hello, Trauma to the tongue can cause a burning sensation and some numbness depending on the amount of damage done. Take some anti-inflammatory medication such as Tylenol or Motrin to assist healing and reduce discomfort. Avoid irritants such as smoking, alcohol, spicy and acidic foods. Rinse your mouth with warm salt water. If you have swelling associated with the initial injury, you may have bitten your tongue again. Please see your dentist to address the broken tooth. An x-ray will determine treatment needed. You may have an infection due to the tooth being broken or even from your tongue injury. Your dentist will help you diagnose and treat both conditions. Antibiotics may be prescribed. Other more serious conditions will also be professionally evaluated. There is a concern for mouth cancer if there is a unresponsive area on the side of the tongue. You are wise to have this clinically evaluated. Thank you for your inquiry. I hope you feel better soon.
