What Causes Numbness On Lip Despite Giving Tylenol After Injury?

Hi, My aunt fell and hit her head on the floor about 2 1/2 hours ago. She has a large goose egg on her head, but there was no cut/bleeding. She seemed ok, a slight upset stomach, but thought it was from excitement of the event. We have been using an ice pack for swelling and she took tylenol for head ache. She is now reporting her bottom lip, from the middle to the right is now numb. Does she need to got to the ER?

Thanks for the query..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms numbness of the lip from middle to right that is half of the lip is a clear indication of nerve injury secondary to trauma..
There is a possibility that there have been compression and inflammation of the nerve secondary to injury..
If it is only due to compression of nerve then the healing will take place and gradually the numbness will subside..
She can take Vitamin B complex supplement as it help in nerve regeneration and healing..
Doing warm compresses will also help..
It will take for almost 2 to 4 weeks for the sensations to return..

But in case if there is no improvement even after 4 weeks than you need to get evaluated by a Neurophysician and in case if the nerve has got completely damaged or ruptured then recovery is approximately not possible..

For bump on head cold compresses should be continued and in place of tylenol take Ibuprofen as it will help in reducing inflammation faster..
