What Causes Numbness In The Fingers?

Hello - I was in the hospital a week ago and when hooking me up to the IV they blew a vein in my right arm right at the top of where it bends for my elbow. I have since been have numbness in my pinky and ring finger and my other fingers feel weak. Could this be caused by the blown vein? I go for a follow up appointment in 2 weeks so wanted to know if I should bring this up or not.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hi
thank you for asking your concern and welcome to hcm. numbness in little and ring finger can happen if irritation to ulnar nerve happens which lies just below the place you mentioned, this may happen if some fluid spills in tissues and it swells compressing nerve or fluid irritation to nerve. if it is irritation that will go over some time and no need to worry. the other thing is you are having weakness in other fingers also, for that i would ask you few questions was your wrist swollen at that time, was your ankle swollen, difficulty in holding any object properly, difficulty in feeling object, water, pain in fingers if answer is yes to any of these then you must visit your doctor and bring in to their attention. they will do some examinations and will advice proper treatment if necessary but please you bring this up.
if you still feel any doubt you can ask us
regards
