What Causes Numbness In Right Side Of Ear And Face?
My daughter came home from school and told me she cannot feel her ear and the right side of her face feels numb. she rode back from a field trip and said she may have slept funny on the bus. Could a pinched nerve be causing this? How do we take alleviate the problem?
Thanks for query .The numbness of face can occur due to various reason ,But the most common reason for numbness is dysfunction of nerve or nerve compression specially trigeminal nerve and less commonly facial nerve.
The other reasons for facial numbness are bell's palsy ,trigeminal neuralgia, ischemic attack, nerve tumor and acoustic neuroma. If the reason is bell's palsy it usually go away by its own within a week.Medicines will be given in this case to relieve symptoms like methyl cellulose as artificial tears to prevent dryness of eye.
You should consult neurologist for proper evaluation and to rule out any serious cause .Neurologist may order test like MRI ans CT SCAN to rule out some kind of growth or tumor on nerve and treat it accordingly.
Hope your concern has been resolved. Get Well Soon. Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
