I am 92 years old I have had about three falls one breaking my ankle but all was dealt with by top Australian surgeons. However, after all was successful for about two years... The last couple of months I have extreme numbness of both feet and half way through the day a swelling of both ankles. I am a very active old person see me on Google Kay Lipton. The Australian artist. I take quite a collection of pills for an onset of high blood pressure. One in particular is Amlodipine 10 mg that might be the cause?
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. Yes, calcium channel blockers can cause limb edema. However, associated with numbness, peripheral neuropathy is also additionally present. 2. Limb elevation in lying down position with legs above level of heart will reduce it. If required, diuretics maybe used. 3. Alpha lipoic acid with vit B12 supplements can be taken to improve peripheral neuropathy. Switching amlodipine with other medications like beta blocker or ACE inhibitors can be discussed with your doctor. Avoid swelling for long to avoid risk of ulcer formation. Hope it helps.
