Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Over the last number of weeks I have been experiencing numbness in my right arm. most recently I had difficulty lifting when went to put shampoo in my hair. This has been occurring for last 3 weeks approx. I notice the numbness after using the hand playing tennis for example. This occurred before approximately two years ago and carpel tunnel was ruled out at that point in time. I m scared it might be something like M.S. The only thing is that I have a tendency to lean on my right arm while sleeping and place my head on it. Could this be causing it alternatively
I do not think that you are having MS. It is most likely early stage of cervical spondylitis. It causes tingling and numbness and it is mostly due to compression of nerves in the neck. Causes can be keeping your neck in same position for long time, also common in person who sits in front of TV/laptop for long time . I would suggest you to get a neck x ray and start folowing treatment. 1. Tablet Pregabalin and Methylcobal 2. Intermittent cervical traction exercises. 3. Soft cervical collar Avoid sleeping in same posture all the time, I think these steps will help you. If even after that you continue to have pain in the neck or numbness. Then you need to get MRI of the cervical spine.
