What Causes Numbness Below The Ear After A Neck Injury?

I had a neck injury from a ride at the local fair in our county about 2 days ago. This is the third day and now I have noticed a small area below my ear where my jaw and earlobe meet. It has now moved up within the last hour and is numb to the touch. It feels like I have water in my ear?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. It seems that you have injured your TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint), the joint that helps in opening and closing of jaws along with side to side movements of the lower jaw.

When this joint is injured, the patient feels pain in the ear area of the jaw and can also feel numbness due to injury of the nerve supplying the TMJ.

I would advise you to visit an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for the examination of the TMJ and further investigations to diagnose if TMJ is injured and if injured, what type of injury you are suffering from.

Based on the clinical examination and further investigations, treatment can be started.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
