What Causes Numbness And Weakness In Legs?

as of the past year or so I would run on elliptical machine and after about 13 minutes my feet started to go numb! I am 510 and weigh 200 and don t necessarily have a great diet and smoke! It s obvious I need to change those habits but now I notice when I am taking a poop longer than like 5 to 10 minutes or so my legs get numb and fall asleep and takes a minute for them to feel normal! Please let me know if I should be worried and need to see a doctor right away or if I change habits and go back to gym it will help?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The numbness after a few minutes may indicate that there may be reduced blood supply to the legs/feet or it may be due to nerve related causes.

This can be determined by physical examination by your doctor. He or she can feel for your pulse in your feet and in your legs to see if they appear normal.

A neurological examination can also be done.

Treatment would depend on the cause found.

Smoking cessation would help either of these.

Though exercise is helpful, it would be best to be assessed by your doctor.

I hope this helps
