What Causes Numbness And Tingling Sensation In The Tongue?

I have had a numb/tingling/dry feeling in my tongue for the last two and a half months. I have been to a dentist, oral surgeon and ENT- all of whom can not find the underlying cause. I have had blood work, a tongue culture and a panoramic x ray- all to no avail. I know the typical presentation of tongue cancer includes an ulcer ir lump. I was wondering if it is possible to have tongue cancer with the tumor affecting the nerves only. Is this something I should look into further?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it looks like dry tongue and numb and tingly feeling can be due to dryness in mouth while can be nerve related issue..

Dry mouth can be due to causes like Severe dehydration, side effects of medications if you take any, salivary gland dysfunction, serve damage supplying salivary glands, oral infections like thrush, sjogren's syndrome..etc..

For dry mouth chew sugarfree chewing gums..
-Drink plenty of water.
-Avoid regular mouthwash and use specialized mouthwash that are formulated for dry mouth patients like Biotene..
-You can also instil artificial saliva drops..
-Suck tart candies as it also stimulates saliva flow..

If does not improve consult a Neuro Physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
