What Causes Numbness And Tingling Sensation In The Feet?

Hi, i presented to an emergency department on Thursday night after I injured my foot in a match. I was told it was a severe sprain because they couldn t see a clear break on x-ray but that it may still be fractured. the area of pain is around the cuniforms/1st & 2nd metatarsals. since then the pain hasn t eased at all and the foot is considerably colder than the other foot and also turns blue. I also have a sensation of numbness/pins & needles in the foot and toes. I cannot weight bare on the foot as it causes a sharp severe pain. what should i do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the qury. I understand yiyr concern.
Your symptoms(blueness /coldness of the foot along with tingling &pins on toes suggeats severe inflammation & trauma to ligament which has resulted in edema of the part.
The edema in turn press over the small capilaries &nerves supplying the part.. giving you the symptoms.
Fracture possibility is also there .. with probable rupture of the blood vessel supplying the part....the findings would be clear with MRI .
Till then you should continue taking rest.raise the foot affected. Hot pack if it's too cold.Anti inflammatory pills over the counter after food would give some relief.
But since you don't have any relief in last 3 days.. you shpould consult expert foot surgeon for his expert advise.
Thanks.
