What Causes Numbness And Swelling On The Face After A Head Injury?

Last year I was severely beaten in a parking lot by 12 or more men, I received a concussion from multiple blows to the head. The right side of my face swelled up like a balloon and some blood vessels in the outside portion of my eye were busted. It has been one year and I still have not regained my memory of what happened, I am now experiencing some symptoms that are concerning me and I would like to know if they could be associated with this past injury. 1. Numbness on the entire right side of my face. 2. Light swelling on entire right side of my face. 3. Heavy redness on inside portion of my eye (closest to the nose) 4. When moving my right eye there is often a random pressure like pain (as if someone is pushing on my eye when its closed) that shoots up into what feels like the right side of my brain and down my face (it stops me in my tracks). 5. Somewhat often my right eye blinks excessively until it forces itself closed and twitches while in that state against my will. (average 10sec.) 6. This has progressed to the rear right side of my back and neck hurting from the tension these random episodes cause. There you have it.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have numbness and swelling on the face after a head injury. Due to head injury there has been injury to the jaw joints and there can be injury to the articular disk as well as there is inflammation of the muscles of the jaw and face leading to tenderness and pain. Swelling is due to fracture of hematoma. You should consult an oral surgeon and get a full mouth x ray known as ORTHOPANTOMOGRAM done so that he can rule out the possibility of slight dislocation or any cracks in the jaw bone or any other abnormality. Along with it as this is associated with head injury MRI or CT Scan followed by complete evaluated by a Neurophysician should be done and treatment will be planned accordingly. As of now you can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen 400 mg thrice a day.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
