What Causes Numbness And Swelling In Forearm After Injury?

Hello. My son recently fell on his left shoulder while at Football training camp. He is 14yrs old. He is actually still there but not doing the physical activities as he has not been cleared. The doctor that called me said that their were no fractures seen in the Xrays. He was checked again today, still no fractures, however, my son still has swelling of the forearm and has numbness to his pinky. Doctor said that if swelling does not subside by Monday he will send him home for Ortho consult but he may require surgery. I am trying to recall what he called what maybe happening with his arm.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi

The injury may have caused some amount of nerve injury or even entrapment requiring possible release. The swelling needs to subside for that and so we should be working towards that. If it doesn't, then minor surgery may be required, I agree.

Best wishes .
