Are you type-1 or type -2 diabetic? For how many years have you been suffering from diabetes? Your symptoms suggest a complication of diabetes known as diabetic neuropathy. In this condition, people who have been suffering from long standing uncontrolled diabetes, develop nerve damage. Nerve damage in the extremities such as hands and feet are a result of peripheral neuropathy. It results in numbness in hands and feet, burning sensation, tingling and sharp shooting pain. For treating neuropathy, you need to consult a diabetologist for medications. You need to control your diabetes well to prevent further progression of the disease. You feel lethargic basically because your diabetes is not well-controlled. Did you get your HbA1C test done? This test helps to determine your blood glucose control over a period of 3 months. It will give you an idea of how well your diabetes is in control.
Are you on insulin? If yes then you need to adjust your insulin dose by consulting your treating diabetologist. Alongwith that you need to self- monitor your blood glucose regularly to see if your diet needs any modification. Stay active and eat healthy high fibre and low fat diet in order to control diabetes. Hope you will now have a clear picture of what needs to be done to prevent any further complications of diabetes.
Hello welcome to HCM. I have read your question and understand your concerns. Longterm diabetes may lead to nerve damage which is called diabetic neuropathy. The second possibility is cervical spondylosis as you have numbness over head and neck pain. My advice to you is -
1. Do cervical spine X ray and confirm you don't have any cervical spine problem.
2.There are tabs avavailable which will relieve diabetes related burning pain. DON'T TAKE SELF THIS MEDICATIONS. ALWAYS CONSLULT YOUR DOCTOR. E. g. Tab. Gabapantin will help in this type of pain. Ask your doctor about this.
3.Adequate control of diabetes will prevent further damage. So do your FBS, PP2BS AND HBA1c report every 3 monthly. Thank you. Have a nice day.
