What Causes Nose Bleeding?

I was taking some anti-biotics after a few stitches and took too small a dose for a few days. I took a the other pills that I hadn't taken before (there were only about 2) and woke up with the remains of a nosebleed. Is that normal? I do have hypertension so that could also play a role.
