General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello XXXX,
Thank you for posting your problem here on HCM,

I read very carefully your question.
--One of the most common causes of nose bleed is thinning of the nose mucous after/during of a viral infection, or trauma on mucous (children who stick their fingers in nose). In these cases, in general the blood vesels on the anterior part of the nose mucous get damaged very easily and start to bleed. What you need to do is: 1) pinch the soft part of the nose with your hands for at least 15 minutes, keeping your head down, so blood wont go on the throat. After 15 minutes check if the bleeding stopped and if it still continues, then do it again for 15 minutes. That action should be enough to stop the bleeding. 2) After stopping the bleeding you should be very careful until the damaged wall of the blood vessels heals completely. Which means do not the remove the hard clots of blood until they fall themselves, do not blow the nose, apply Vaseline with a cotton tip very gently in the nose. If you follow these advises, in a couple of days, it should not give anymore problems, since looks like a new problem for you.
-- Other causes of nose bleed, not very common, but very important to diagnose, are High blood pressure, Coagulation problems, Masses in the nose who bleed continuously because they are very well supplied with blood.

So, to summarize, If I was you caring doctor, after advising you the the first measures, and they are not enough to stop the bleeding, I would consider to do some labs and examinations to rule our the less common causes of nose bleeding and decide the necessary treatment.

Hope that helps,
If you have more questions, feel free to ask.

Dr. Klarida
