What Causes Nose Bleed, Chronic Headache And Dizziness?

My husband is a 20 yr old average weight male. He has had a persistent headache for 4 days with intensity upon standing. He has also had two nose bleeds during this time he is also feeling nauseous and dizzy. We had his blood pressure checked yesterday and it was 137/73. We do not live at high altitude or in a significantly dry climate

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
Understand your concern.

I think you have high blood pressor (137: High systolic ), that increased intracranial pressor and disturb the blood flow in brain lead to headache, nose bleed and dizziness.
It may be migraine problem.
Nose bleed may be due to warm environment and chronic standing.

You should consult thee MD doctor for Blood pressor treatment:
1. Start Blood pressor treatment: Tablet atenolol/Propanolol
2. Avoid excessive salt in diet Not > 5 g/day
3. Start regular exercise/yoga
4. Avoid spicy and fatty diet
5. Take fruits regularly
6. For headache take : Ibuprufen 500 mg three times a day or you can use aspirin or acetaminophen
If not responds, you can use sumatriptan, combination of ergots and caffine

For nose bleed:
Following are the treatment of severe nose bleed.
1. Sit down, pinch your nose just above nostrils for 15-20 minutes
2. Relive after 15 minutes and again after 5 minutes pinch it again till the bleeding stops
3. Take breath through mouth.
4. Do not blow through nose
5. Apply cold pack on your nose: it constricts your nose blood vessels
6. Do not lie down flat and avoid strenuous exercise like weight lifting.
7. If note resolved you should take vitamin K injection.
8. Also do investigation like X-RAY head, CT scan if not stop

Also do Other test like : CBC, ESR, blood glucose, Lipid profile, BT, CT

Hope this may help you
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
