What Causes Neck Stiffness And Occasional Buzz In Ear?

I have had a stiff neck problem for nearly six months. My doctor had x-rays taken and those showed no vertebrae or disc problems. The doctor suspects arthritis in the neck. Several weeks ago, I began to notice that a soft buzz sound will occasionally occur in my right ear. It seems like it is maybe related to fluid movement. It lasts a couple of seconds, and then will not re-occur for anywhere from half an hour to hours. Coincidentally, I have a mild case of tinnitus for a long time - and that is more like a faint metallic ringing. I don t think this is tinnitus (the soft buzz sound) but something related to muscle contraction or fluid movement. Is this a common condition?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
stiff neck is usually due to cervical spondylitis and in this condition one may occasionally hear conducted sound of turbulent blood flow in the blood vessels which get somewhat compressed in certain position. If X-ray doesn't show spondylitic changes then furthur investigation is advised.
