What Causes Nausea And Throat Discomfort After Taking Diazepam?

I started taking 10 mg diazepam two days ago for sciatic nerve problems at the advice of my doctor. I take the pill 1 hour before bedtime to relieve the pain and allow me to sleep. I simply do not take medicine, but on the advice of my doctor decided to try these pills. No problems last night, the first time I took the pills. Tonight, I woke up at 4:00 a.m. with esophageal spasms, like something is hung in my throat... sort of like I want to throw up. Could this be caused by this medicine?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the query. I understand your concern.
Your complaints are due to-
- Pill.. which caused friction to walls of esophagus while swallowing/ Less water consumption with the pill
- Probably pill was taken on an empty stomach causing acidity & vomiting sensation.
- The dose of medicine was strong/ your stomach could not tolerate it.
Thanks
