What Causes Nausea And Diarrhea With Diabetes And BP Medicines?

hello. my 86 year old mom is taking metformin 500mg 2 tablets daily, glimepiride 2 mg 2 tablets twice daily and glipizide 5 mg 1 tablet daily for diabetes. She is also on benicar 20 mg 1 tablet a day for blood pressure and hydrochlorathiazide 25 mg 1 tablet daily . She has been complaining for a while now of nausea and here lately diarrhea. Could all this medicine be attributing to this?

I appreciate your concern for your beloved mother.

Based on the history given, she seems to be having the side effects of diabetes medicine Metformin.

Nausea, abdominal pain, and an increase in the frequency of bowel movements (diarrhea) may be reduced by taking metformin with meals, as well as by starting off at a low dose that is slowly increased.

The extended-release form of Metformin may also decrease gastrointestinal side effects.

You need to consult her treating physician to review the prescription.
