What Causes Mouth Ulcer?

I have one small sore in my mouth, it's located below my lip at mid tooth level, it's clear with black dot in the center, it's not painful, and I've had it for 8 days and I'm beginning to wonder if it's something serious or just something viral.
I don't smoke, but do drink 3 nights a week, with excellent health, and no history of mouth sores, or family cancer. I'm married to same woman for decades, and we are not sexually active outside our relationship.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query.Sores in mouth is very common problem. There can be many reasons for ulcers to occur like minor injury to mucosa due bite ,hard food ,acidic food or any dental appliances, poor oral hygiene and infection like thrush .In your case these probably are aphthous ulcer.

Usually they resolve by themselves in few days .I would suggest you to avoid spicy food and acidic drink.do warm saline rinses .use antiseptic mouthwash like chlorhexidine and brush your teeth twice a day.

If the condition do not resolve in 4-5 days then consult dentist for proper examination and to rule out other conditions like canker sore .Doctor may perform scaling and prescribe oral antibiotics.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
