What Causes Mouth Sores After Taking Carbamezapine?

I've been taking Carbamezapine for at least a year for trigeminal neuralgia. 4 weeks ago I got bronchitis and my doctor prescribed an antibiotic. For the past 2 weeks or so, I have been plagued by mouth sores - blister like sores on my tongue and inside the cheeks. Symptom checker said it could be thrush due to the antibiotics or a side effect of the Carbamezapine. How can I get rid of these painful sores? I can't stop taking the medication. Do I need to go back to see my doctor again?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain mouth sores after taking antibiotic seems to be due to side effect to the antibiotic and blister like sores in mouth is due to canker sores or apthous ulcers..
It is not thrush as thrush manifests itself as white coating over the tongue..

Once the antibiotic intake will be stopped gradually the sores will get better..

As of now for apthous ulcer you can do warm saline gargles
Gargles with 1:1 solution of benadryl and milk of magnesia can help..
Apply numbing gel over the sore for relief from pain especially during eating..
Take a vitamin b complex tablet for a period of 15 days..
Avoid spicy, sour and acidic foods..

In case if the sores recur or does not get better even after stopping antibiotic intake , then you should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
