Hallow Dear,

You had miscarriage in the month of July and you started birth control pills oc pills) in the month of September. What about the month of August? This month was entirely unprotected.

Though by and large, the first egg release after miscarriage is supposed to happen after 5 weeks, its earlier occurrences are known. So if you have any intercourse in the month of August, you have to look for the evidence of pregnancy. Pregnancy test on overnight early morning first urine sample would help you find this.

It is not necessary that you start the menses on the first day of sugar pill. There are 7 sugar pills in every pack of oc pills. The period can start on any day while on the sugar pills. So you need not panic if the menses have not started on the first day of sugar pills. Wait till all the sugar pills are over; you would get menses if you have not missed any pill throughout the cycle.

If still you do not get the period, still please continue with the next pack. Then you can confirm the status of the pregnancy by:

1. Pregnancy test on overnight morning first urine sample a week after the missed period; earlier the test may report false negative result.

2. Beta hCG test: Values above 25 mIU/ml are diagnostic of pregnancy. In non-pregnant state, the values are under 5 mIU/ml.

If you are pregnant, please discontinue the pills. You may opt for medical termination of pregnancy. If you are not pregnant, continue the pills in the next pack. If similar delay is noted after the next pack also, please report to your Gynaecologist. You may have to change the combination of the pills. You may have to opt for Oestrogen dominant pills as Progesterone dominant pills diminishes the amount of bleeding, sometimes delaying the periods.

I hope this helps you.
