What Causes Missed Periods Post Unprotected Sex While On Duphaston?

hi Doc, . i just wanna ask. last year i consult a doctor regarding my menstrual cycle because its irregular. a factor is that in weighing too much for my age im overweight. she advised me to take duphaston after i havent got my period for 2 months. from there everytime until now when i missed my period i took it 2x daily to have my period. is it ok? last nov 29 2015 i start taking again my duphaston to get my period. but on the 4th day i had an unprotected sex it is withdrawal method. i continue to finish taking the meds for 5 days. its the 7th day already since i stopped the med but i havent got my period. is there a chance i might got pregnant? when is the best time to take pregnancy test? your help will be highly appreciated. thank you

Hi.

The withdrawal method is indeed the most ineffective one with a failure rate of 50 %. If you already discontinue the duphaston and yet did not experience the bleed, then it can at times take some time for the bleeding to occur. The best time to take a pregnancy test would be at least 2 weeks from the suspected date of conception using an early morning urine sample.

But if at all pregnancy is confirmed, then for the safety of the pregnancy it would be best to continue with the duphaston in my opinion.
