What Causes Minor Post Coital Bleeding After Intercourse?
I have recently experienced some minor post coital bleeding after intercourse on the last 3 occasions. I went to my GP and she performed a Pap smear and sent me for a Pelvic Ultrasound. Both tests came back normal. She suggested that I see a gynecologist if the bleeding occurs again. I have not had intercourse since then. I am extremely worried about this and I am too scared to have intercourse incase i find the bleeding again and have to go to the specialist. I am concerned about what she is looking for. I have no pain on intercourse and my periods are regular. I am nearly 49 years old and was wondering if it might just be that i am getting close to menopause and maybe that could be the cause. I am finding it hard to sleep and eat as i am so worried about what will happen next and what it might be. could you please help me
At the age of 49 years, post intercourse bleeding should not be taken lightly. The first in the list of differential diagnosis would be cancer of the cervix (mouth of the uterus). However, your Pap smear has not shown any alarming findings suggestive of cancer. So the possibility of some other lesions like polyp or infection of cervix has to be ruled out and treated.
Keeping away from the sex will not help you. By hiding a rooster, you cannot stop sunrise. Please get yourself thoroughly examined from the Gynaecologist in spite of no bleeding. Whatever is the ailment, get treated well in time before it becomes too advanced. If nothing abnormal is detected, you are more than happy and stress free.
I hope you got the message.
