Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I' m suddenly having a problem remembering numbers as in phone numbers and dates. I 'm usually very good with numbers. This happened to me once about 20 years ago. It lasted about 5 hours. I 'm 63 years old. I had a pheochromocytoma removed in Jan. 1997.
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Sudden onset difficulty in remembering the things and day to day activities can occur due to some brain event and one likely possibility is Transient Ischaemic Attack. You have one similar history about 20 years back and that can be related to it. Other possibility considering your age is some cognitive impairment related to advancing age. Dementia is possibility but in dementia gradual and progressive memory loss occurs and sudden onset memory impairment is not seen usually. For the memory symptoms I'd advise you to consult a psychiatrist for help. Get yourself evaluated for proper diagnosis. MMSE or mini mental status examination can help to rule out any organic cognitive impairment.
Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
