What Causes Lumps On The Tongue Along With Post Nasal Drip?

I recently had the flu although I had the flu shot. After weeks of coughing and developing a post nasal drip I know have bumps on the back of my tongue. It is to one side of my tongue and although it is not painful it is irritating. Do I need to see my doctor or just use some over the counter meds.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain lumps at the back of tongue with post nasal drip and flu seems to be probably due to swelling and inflammation of the Circumvallate Papilla that contains taste buds and are located at the back one third of tongue in a typical "V" shaped pattern..

Due to infection they get inflamed as they are located closely to throat and inflammation in throat can lead to swelling of taste buds too..

Nothing to worry, you can start doing warm saline gargles, take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and avoid spicy foods..
They will resolve gradually as the infection will subside..

In case of no improvement consult your local physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
