What Causes Lump At Needle Insertion Site After Blood Donation?

Hi about a month ago i donated plasma for the third time. When he pulled the needle out it hurt more then usual. Gradually a firm peasized lump developed. When i workout or excercise it seems to swell up woth blood. It looks like a bubble. The doctor i saw on campus said that it was probably a busted vein and may always have a small bump. Its odd looking and it bothers me. Is it true that it will never heal/ what can i do to help the healing process?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Development of lump at the site of insertion of needle after blood donation suggests hematoma formation.
The needle injury can cause injury to the vein and soft tissues due to faulty technique.
You can use hot fomentation for the pain.
The swelling and pain will disappear if it is caused due to hematoma formation.
If the swelling does not disappear within few days, you can consult your primary health care provider for clinical assessment and thus management.

Thanks and take care
