What Causes Lump And Swelling In Neck And Numbness In Throat?

Have had small lump in left side of neck since July 2014. My neck is starting to feel swollen all of the time on the left side, especially in the evenings. Went to dr, but he didn t seem concerned. Feel the lump is getting bigger, but not sure if it s just my imagination. Sometimes the left side of my throat feels numb. Sometimes I can feel it from all the way from behind my left ear to the front of my throat. There is nothing visible from the outside. Any advice? I also have neck pain quite a bit from the back and inner ear pain once in awhile. Could this be from something spinal (compression)? I am a 35 year old female, very active physically, but I do take Procardia XL for now. Have had 5 children and these symptoms started 2-3 months after delivering my last child. Please advise.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Lump on side of neck could be due to lymph node enlargement.
Lymph node enlargement is most commonly due to infection or inflammation.
Feeling of numbness in throat requires a clinical assessment of the throat.
Although you have mentioned that no lump or any visible abnormality is evident still it is important to rule it out by clinical assessment.
A clinical assessment of the inner ear is also essential.
The character of pain mentioned by you could be due to compression of nerve around the neck and behind the ear.
The symptoms mentioned by you are not characteristic of any specific lesion thus clinical assessment is needed to rule out all possibilities.

Thanks and take care
