What Causes Lower Abdominal Cramps And Burning Sensation After Bilateral Hernia Repair?

I had a bilateral hernia repair two weeks ago with mesh. I was feeling like I was getting better, except on day 4 I started sweating really bad and I still am just seems to get worse. I also have bad burning sensation and cramps in my lower abdomen. I checked my fever and it runs from being normal to 99.6 the highest. Is this normal?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of operated for bilateral hernia.
This is an extensive surgery and a foreign body is inserted in the form of mesh. Due to lots of dissection that is needed for placement of the mesh the chances of injury to small nerves which are not easily seen or their entrapment in the stitches and the scar formation is common and can cause the pain like you have got.
The sweating, burning sensation and cramps i the lower abdomen can be symptoms of an infection and hence should be watched for.
I would advise yo the following:
start an antibiotic so that an antibiotic coverage will be given.
Anti-inflammatory must be taken.
Consult your operating Surgeon, get examined clinically, ultrasonography of the anterior abdominal wall and the pelvis just to see that there is no collection.
If present this can be aspirated and sent for culture and sensitivity and start the treatment accordingly.
