What Causes Low Platelet Count In Blood Test Report?

Hi.. My father (58yrs old) suffered from hyperthyroidism. Now, his tests (T3, T4, TSH) for thyroid have all come back normal. But his platelet count is 70,000. He also suffers from gluten allergy. He had a cholestrol problem but even those results were good this time. However, the low platelet count has us worried. Please help.

Hi, dear.
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern. You have low platelet count. There are many reasons for low platelet count. Most common is viral infection. Even malaria or dengue can leads to low platelet count. If you don't have any signs of bleeding then don't worry. When such kind of patients comes to me I advised to wait and watch the platelet count. It will come back to normal within few days. If not then bone marrow examination is advisable. you should consult your physician and take treatment accordingly.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
