What Causes Low Folate Levels In Blood Test?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here... i have been suffering from headaches for the past month or so and now have spots in my eyes and get very dizzy over the last week, my gp has said my folate levels were low in a recent blood test and has now repeated it what does this mean?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Folate levels in blood are due to deficiency of folic acid in blood.
Folic acid deficiency is usally associated with deficiency of vitamin B 12 also.
Thus, get blood levels of vitamin b 12 also.
Vitamin b 12 and folic acid supplements need to be taken to correct the deficiency.
Folic acid is given in form of tablets whereas vitamin B 12 is given in form of i9njectables.
