What Causes Low BP And Weakness While On Metoprolol?

My dad is 91, he was prescribed metoprolol 25 mg which he started taking 5 nights ago, he is normally in pretty good health, he just recently has had a pacemaker put in. Yesterday and today he has been feeling very weak and wobbelly when he walks, can this medication make him feel this way, 3 hours ago he s blood pressure was 98 over 59 pulse 59.

Hi....(1) metoprolol is a drug of the group of medicines cslled as B-BLOCKERS (2) it causes 2 main effects - (a) decreases blood pressure (b) decreases heart rate (3) your concern is right , weakness and giddiness he is feeling is due to metoprolol (4) having 3 years exprrience of working in INTENSIVE CARDIAC CARE UNIT i will advice u to immedietly stop metoprolol and moreover metoprolol is generally not given to elderly patients 》75 yrs n ur dads age is 91 yrs...if u have any further doubts kindly dont hesitate to ask me....regards...Dr Rahul Rathee
