What Causes Light Periods While On Birth Control Pills?

I have been on birth control for almost 4 years, and have never had a problem. This month I was bleeding really dark for only a couple hours on one day. Usually my period is right on time and lasts exactly three days. I have already started taking my new pack of pills but not sure what I should do. I did miss 2 days but took them as directed on them package.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Bleeding while on birth control pills is common in some women and it is not alarming. You can continue your pills. However if there is recurrent bleeding you have to consult a gynecologist to rule out some uterine pathology.
