What Causes Left Sided Facial Numbness And Pain Post Mastoidectomy?
ive had a mastoidectomy done feb 4th last month and iam still having alot of pain, ive tryed to tell my ENT and all he says is its normal ive also been on antibotics do u no why iam still in alot of pain oh plus the left side of my face is numb n hurts which is the the same side i had the mastoidectomy done.
As per your symptoms it seems that during the Mastoidectomy procedure there is traumatic injury to the TRIGEMINAL NERVE which is the fifth cranial nerve known as Nerve of Face and it can lead to a condition known as TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA leading to severe pain as well as numbing of the effected side of face.
In case of pain originating from nerve antibiotics will not resolve pain as they can treat only bacterial infections and you need painkillers that can relieve nerve induced pain like Carbamazepine, Gabapentin etc..
In case it is a neuralgic pain painkillers to relieve nerve induced pain a well as surgery (Like GAMA KNIFE RADIOSURGERY) if need will be done by a neurosurgeon..
Wishing you to get well soon and thanks for writing to Healthcare Magic..
Thanks and regards..
