What Causes Jaw Pain, Cold Symptoms And Night Sweating?

I am concerned for my 50-year-old male fiance. Three weeks ago, he was exhibiting cold symptoms (cough, headache, and runny nose). He took DayQuil, Exedrine and Zyrtec. He rarely ever takes medication. Two weeks ago, he began experiencing flu-like symptoms of body aches, chills and night-sweating, and still a very hoarse, unproductive cough. He was given Amoxicillian on 3/27/14 and Prednisone to treat infection. He developed a rash on his chest and arm, and was unable to sleep lying down all week, after 8 days of the antibiotic. His physician prescribed a Zpac and told him to stop taking the Amoxicillan. He has taken this antibiotic (Zpac) for 4 of the 5 day dosage now and continues to experience all symptoms... only they seem to be worsening. His cough is unproductive, dry. His voice sounds hoarse. He says he has no sore throat. He has pain all over. He feels no energy. He says he feels okay in the morning after sleeping in a recliner chair through the night. By 3PM, he feels horrible. He has a 100-101 fever that does seem to break with 1500 mg acetimenophen. He NEVER complains about pain and hates medication. He is currently having difficulty tolerating his body aches and joint pain until it s time for the next dosage of pain medicine. He had left jaw pain last Monday or Tuesday which subsided. His left shoulder was so sore he couldn t even lay on it. He can not sleep lying down all of the way. He intends to go back to the physician tomorrow... but it is extremely difficult to convince him to see a doctor. I m concerned that his symptoms are serious. Help?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have jaw pain, cold symptoms and night sweating caused due to conditions like sinusitis, lung infection or post nasal drip . which is leading to severe cough and phlegm. I would suggest you to consult a Pulmonologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like chest x ray, throat swab culture and sputum culture along with complete blood picture can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly. Doctor may also refer you to endocrinologist for hormonal changes .

Jaw pain mostly due to infection in teeth such as acute pulpitis, periapical abscess, periodontal abscess, pericornitis . Other uncommon condition that can cause jaw pain are temporomandibular joint problem . You should consult a dentist and go for oral evaluation.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
