My jaw sometimes locks up when I have food in my mouth . I cant chew it ,swallow it or spit it out. I have bad upper right side of the jaw & a rubber band snapping on my left side . I also notice my mouth cant open as wide as it use to. What could be the problem(s), & who should I go & see?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
From history it seems that you might be having lax TMJ muscles giving rise this problem.
Keep your hand on the joint while opening your mouth wide open or during yawning.
Do not try to open your mouth wide open as there is a risk of having partial dislocation of TMJoint.
Do not chew hard stuff.
Consult Oral surgeon and get examined.
Ok and take care.
