Hi I have a daughter age 5 and a son age 6 and they have both devoloped itchy white spots on their tongue, whilst my girl is ok with it my son is really struggling saying that they are burning.... any ideas what this is and what could I give him to ease the burn
As per your query itchy white spots over the tongue that causes burning sensation can be Apthous ulcers caused due to allergic reaction to any food product or other things like toothpaste that both are using, nutritional deficiency of iron and vitamin B12, oral infection etc.. Other causes of white itchy spots over the tongue can be due to herpes virus infection causing cold sores.. You should consult an Oral physician and get evaluated and he can eve advise blood tests to rule out the exact cause and treat accordingly..
As of now you can apply numbing gel containing Lignocaine over the spot to reduce itching and burning.. Warm saline gargles can help.. Sucking ice can also relieve by reducing inflammation..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
