What Causes Itchy Vaginal Discharge?

Hi ..i have been suffering from itchy vagina with thick white discharge and doctor has given my vdm kit and also candizole vaginal cream . I want to know if its ok to use the medicines soon before or during my periods as am already due for my periods in a day or two . Thank you .
